My own little protecting gargoyle that helps keep an eye on things.

Ever-After.

Ever-After: 12/14" Acrylic on reclaimed canvas.

An experiment into Gothica, as part of my ongoing efforts to dig deep into myself and rediscover some spark or ember of, the old passions I felt once; when musing on, and expressing in my own small way, the comedic tragedy I see whenever I muse upon our delicate presence in the Universe.

Soror Wormatiam

Soror Wormatiam: 8/10" Acrylic on canvas.

Went a little dark with this one, returning to my gothic sensibilities in how I relate to this World and our general state of fleeting existence.  This falls under the purview of religion so far as I'm concerned; an area of human thought and practice that seeks to tackle and reconcile us with those fundamental questions as 'why are we here?' and 'What is the meaning of Life?' If indeed there is such a thing.

Damascus Road.

Damascus Road: 36/24" Acrylic on canvas.

I chose to approach this painting a little differently, opting to use only a palette knife, as in other of my paintings of a mechanical nature.  I suppose my reasoning towards this stems from my own  awkwardness and general ignorance of all things mechanical.  My mental and emotional disassociation from the subject seemed to demand an approach that might remove any notion of control in execution.  Instead leaving me to, wield the palette knife with the same fumbling awkwardness that grips me whenever I direct my attention towards the mechanical.  In some small way, I hope that this same fumbling and halting approach will help familiarize myself  more with the subject-matter.  As I attempt to come to terms with the Machine and make my own kind of peace with it.

Frankie

One of my more popular pieces from this year is Frankie.  A rendition I did of Dr. Frank N Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  My own homage to the character that made quite an impression on me, as I'm sure he has had on so many others.

It's been a while since I posted anything here, so I've freshened it up a bit and will proceed to post some of what I've been up to over the past year or so.

Big Giant Heads!

No, it's not William Shatner, but rather, the colossal stone heads of Easter Island!  Ever since I was a lad, this remote island populated by these monumental sculptures has retained my wonder in their mystery, and an unyielding respect for those who dedicated themselves to their shaping.  How old are they?  Who built them? What do they represent?  So many questions and theories to answer them, although with the discovery of bodies attached to the heads, it draws one to wonder at the potential span of time they have maintained their silent vigil.  How I would love to travel there someday, to feel the ancient stone beneath my hands and reach out with body and soul to those who, even now, retain the secret of their working.
